Isolation Life

Tom lay down on the bed staring at his alone, little sized bedroom. There is a new virus called Verhus Cholenia that he has just been infected by, Tom has to isolate for 7 days and test ND, which means ‘No Disease.’ It is his second day today since he tested D, meaning ‘Disease’. It was a disaster getting Cholenia. He would miss the rugby grand final, an important school test and 7 days of friend time. “I hate this!” He shouted to himself. The rugby grand final was his biggest concern while the test was his mum’s. It was a catastrophe.

There were things he could do for entertainment. For example, his room was ball friendly, there was nothing made out of glass that would break. He threw a ball at the wall and caught it. He did that for a while and started to get a fatigue, so he made a lazer maze out of masking tape. He got bored and did something else. That’s how his day passed.

The next day, he took another Cholenia Test. Unfotunately, it still was in the D section. Which ment… “Back to your room Tom.” He dragged himself to the room downstairs, did his daily routine, ball throwing, lazer maze and laying on the bed. He slept for three hours, woke up, checked his temperature to realize he was 39.0 degrees! Tom could not do anything but lay on the bed which was also hard due to his sore back.

It was 6:00 am in the morning, Tom video called his coach to let him watch the final. Tom’s coach is a very kind person so he let Tom watch the game remotely. His eyes were glued to the game pass by pass, goal by goal. The scores were tied with 30 seconds left, when a boy in Tom’s team belted a ball into the six pointer area and won the game. Their joy knew no bounds, Tom was disappointed to be away and not able to celebrate with the team. There was more good news that day, Tom tested ND! He could not have been happier, he ran to the park and saw a few teammates still there, they played and celebrated for the rest of the day. This day will be one of Tom’s best memories.
